Rafael Vega, MD, PhD is a neuro-oncologist, acting as the Director of Neurosurgical Oncology and the Brain Tumor Center at Beth Israel Deconess Medical Center. He specializes in brain mapping techniques and awake craniotomies, and uses fluorescence-based imaging to better surgical outcomes. Dr. Vega is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr Vega also serves as the Program Leader of the Neuro-Oncology Clinical Trials Group at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and his research focuses on surgical neuro-oncology clinical outcomes as well as translational research for drug development in primary brain tumors.

Dr. Vega received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, and completed a residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a fellowship The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
